Public Art projects
Art in any medium that can be presented or staged in public, usually located outdoors and accessible to all audiences (e.g. sculptures, murals, exhibitions, public theater/dance exhibitions, video installations, etc.)
Participating OPEN communities currently include Bushwick and Williamsburg. Each calendar year, nonprofit organizations serving one of the aforementioned neighborhoods have the opportunity to apply for an ODA grant at an open call. In addition to the proposal options highlighted in the four categories listed below, all projects and/or programming must incorporate public and/or community spaces in the neighborhood. This criteria ensures a means of bringing the community closer together and increasing the likelihood of participation among diverse residents. All projects must have a collaborative component that heavily incorporates community members, allowing them to engage in the creative processes.
APPLYING FOR A GRANT
The application process consists of five steps:
Submit a Letter of Interest (LOI) via our online platform at www.opennyc.org.
After LOI's are reviewed, we will decide which projects best align with the mission of OPEN. Applicants of selected projects will then be asked to submit a Request for Proposal (RFP), which should include more detailed information about their organization, project, goals, and budget.
Applicants will interview with the Executive Director and Grant Review Panelists.
Applicants must fine-tune their proposals based on feedback, then resubmit their RFP.
The final step before funding is meeting with our Board of Directors.
Following receipt of funding, winning candidates will have up to one year to complete their selected projects. Grant recipients must submit mandatory monthly reports and meet regularly with our Executive Director to review these materials until the completion of their project. In addition, all selected grantees are required to attend our Grantee Awards Reception. Please review our calendar for important dates and deadlines.
