Dr Ahson Rabbani is the Vice President of The Citizens Foundation (TCF) in Pakistan. Ahson has been involved with TCF for 12 years as a supporter, volunteer, and donor. Ahson holds a doctorate in business administration (Social Marketing) and has 20 years of work experience. In the corporate sector he has served as Regional Manager - South Asia for GE and as Country Manager – Automotive Lubricants for Mobil in Pakistan. In the social sector he has worked in areas of health with local affiliate of Population Services International D.C. and capacity building with the Aga Khan Foundation.

MONDAY, APRIL 12th, RAFAT ALI, FOUNDER, PUBLISHER & EDITOR, CONTENTNNEXT MEDIA (SOLD TO GUARIDIAN NEWS & MEDIA IN 2008); FORMERLY, MANAGING EDITOR OF SILICON ALLEY REPORTER

Since founding paidContent.org in 2002, Rafat has overseen the rollout to three new verticals and the expansion into revenue generating events for the parent company ContentNext Media.  Before ContentNext, Rafat was managing editor of the Silicon Alley Reporter. Editor & Publisher has called Rafat “journalism’s poster boy for career independence from news companies,” and CBS MarketWatch has called him “a pioneer in using the Web for an almost real-time business news feed.” Per Reuters, "ContentNext’s flagship paidContent, founded in 2002, has quickly established itself as a must-read among executives in the media and digital media sector."  In July 2008, Rafat sold ContentNext Media to UK-based Guardian News & Media. Rafat and his executive team continue to run the company as a stand-alone business. Rafat was the Knight Foundation Fellow at Indiana University, his alma mater, where he completed his Masters in Journalism, 1999-2000.

THURSDAY, MARCH 18th, Dr. ASHER HASAN, FOUNDER & CEO, NAYA JEEVAN

Dr. Asher Hasan is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Naya Jeevan a not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to providing socio-economically disadvantaged families throughout the emerging world with affordable access to quality, catastrophic healthcare. Dr. Hasan was recently selected as a Draper Richards Social Entrepreneur Fellow for 2009-2011 which is accompanied with a $300,000 award. In addition, Naya Jeevan is also the recipient of a $75,000 1st prize in the 2008 NYU Social Entrepreneurship Business Plan competition.

Prior to launching Naya Jeevan, Dr. Hasan served in the capacity of Senior Director and Head of the US Medical Affairs Obesity team for Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to relocating to California, Dr. Hasan served as the US Medical Director for Rimonabant (Acomplia) for sanofi-aventis, based out of their US headquarters in Bridgewater, NJ. During his tenure in New York City, Dr. Hasan also completed a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

After migrating to the US, Dr, Hasan attended Oberlin College where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and biology with an additional concentration in international relations. Subsequently, Dr. Hasan moved to Harvard Medical School where he worked as a preclinical researcher along with a group of vascular surgeons at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. His research endeavors were focused on evaluating the incidence of restenosis in a rat carotid artery model following balloon angioplasty. Dr. Hasan pursued further pre-clinical and basic science research opportunities at Massachusetts General Hospital in collaboration with a group of neuro-anesthesiologists. His research there focused on the role of the NMDAR1 receptor in clinical analgesia.

Graduating summa cum laude, Dr. Hasan successfully completed his MD degree from the State University of New York. He then went on to train in General Surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. At this juncture, Dr. Hasan opted out of surgical practice to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry with Sanofi-Synthelabo (now sanofi-aventis). In addition to his affiliation with the biotech/pharmaceutical industry in the US, Dr. Hasan is an active member of NAASO-The Obesity Society, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association. He also recently (2005-2006) served as a board member of the US National Business Group on Health: Institute on Cost & Effects of Obesity.

TUESDAY, NOV 3rd: ULYA KHAN, COO COLLABORATION SERVICES, THOMSON REUTERS

Ulya Khan is the Chief Operating Officer for the Collaboration Services group, within the Sales & Trading (SBU) at Thomson Reuters.  The Sales & Trading business delivers financial information, news, collaboration and transactions services to support the trading floor activities of buy and sell side customers across global financial markets.

Ulya has been working within the Collaboration services business since 2003, managing teams across Asia, Europe, and Americas.  The collaboration services business has been an exceptionally performing business, doubling year on year revenues for the last 3 years.  Ulya has been instrumental in defining and refining successful Product Delivery, Product Launch Management, and Business Operations Methodologies within Thomson Reuters.  These methodologies have greatly helped in reducing time to market for key products, enabling Thomson Reuters to maintain its competitive edge. 

Previously, Ulya served as Global Head of Programme Management for the Reuters Enterprise Division.  Ulya has considerable experience in the financial markets, having worked with real time financial products, contributions, end of day pricing products, as well as collaboration tools. 

Prior to moving to New York, Ulya worked with Reuters in London, where she held positions within development, product management, and project management.  She moved to New York in 2000 where she worked on several large customer deals as well as acquisitions and was a key player in the success of the Multex integration within Reuters.   

Ulya has an Honours Degree in Computer Science and a Masters Degree in Management Science from Imperial College, London.  Ulya also completed the Executive Program in Business Strategy at Harvard Business School.

THURSDAY, NOV 12th: NASSER AHMAD, CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER & MANAGER, DiMaio Ahmad Capital LLC

Nasser Ahmad is the Chief Investment Officer and Manager of DiMaio Ahmad Capital, an investment manager with its headquarters in New York.
 
Prior to co-founding DiMaio Ahmad Capital in 2005, Mr. Ahmad was a Managing Director of Credit Suisse Capital and the Chief Investment Officer for the Diversified Credit Hedge Fund Group.  Mr. Ahmad spent twelve years at Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) where he held senior positions in the Fixed Income trading division. Before moving over to Credit Suisse Capital, Mr. Ahmad ran the Global Credit trading business for CSFB.  Mr. Ahmad started his professional career at Salomon Brothers in 1992.
 
Mr. Ahmad is on the boards of Breakthrough for Human Rights and the Soros Economic Development Fund.  He is also a board member of the South Asian Action Forum (SAAF), a Political Action Committee (PAC) consisting of community and business leaders that promotes a progressive policy platform with key rising and established U.S. policymakers.  In addition,Mr. Ahmad is a term member of The Corporation Development Committee (CDC) of MIT which helps secure critical financial resources for the Institute.
 
In 2008, Mr. Ahmad joined the National Finance Committee (NFC) of the Obama presidential campaign and was appointed co-chair of the Asian American Finance committee.
 
Mr. Ahmad was born and raised in Pakistan.  He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering.

TUESDAY, SEPT 29th: LINDA HOLLIDAY, MEDIA, INTERNET & MARKETING ENTREPRENEUR, CEO OF ANGEL INVESTING FIRM NEW YORK ANGELS

Linda Holliday is a media, internet and marketing serial-entrepreneur -- recently turned advisor and angel investor with the New York Angels.

A veteran of the entire internet life-cycle to date, Linda’s specific passions include search, user experience and information architecture. A contributor to TED conference founder Richard Wurman’s Understanding series, she has been recognized for bringing fresh thinking to traditional and new media. Valued for her expertise in designing comprehensive on- and off-line ‘go-to-market’ plans for seed-stage companies, Linda is an active mentor-consultant whose interests still center on the intersection between old and new media.

In 2007, Linda and her partner sold their internet marketing communications firm —Medical Broadcasting Company--to Digitas, and then in turn to Publicis. The then 200+ firm, leading in healthcare, still thrives as Digitas Health with over 600+ employees, over $100mm in revenue and offices in multiple countries.

MBC was an award-winning pioneer in the internet services sectors and was credited with many innovations. The firm’s roster included global blue-chip media and healthcare clients such as Johnson & Johnson and Time, Inc. Valued for its internet and healthcare marketing expertise, MBC was involved in launching and marketing some of the world’s largest drugs such as Tylenol and Viagra. The company built more than 1000 web sites, ran complex relationship programs on and off-line, designed robust educational programs and led industry efforts with major media and search companies. In addition to general executive responsibilities, as President, Linda also led marketing, media, innovation, and business development.

Linda also successfully created and exited a thought-leading internet business intelligence company (ePhrmaceuticals) as well as a production business that produced syndicated television programs (Bodysense hosted by Mike Rowe.)

Prior to starting MBC, Linda was the marketing VP for a nationally known commercial, film and Imax film production company (SBK Pictures.) She came to SBK from Cablevision where she led the marketing for sports channels in multiple US cities. Working in sports marketing in Philadelphia, she was fortunate enough to train at the feet of some truly great entrepreneurs, and she was credited with many sports marketing and sports promotions innovations. Whether it was sports channels in Chicago, or Pay-TV in The Netherlands, she is known to say: “Getting viewers to pay for television was great training for the Internet!”

Ms Holliday was born and raised in Detroit, the daughter of an electrical engineer and a psychologist. She attended the University of Michigan, received a BFA in Painting and went on to receive an MBA from The Wharton School. She lives on the Upper West Side with her husband, Ali Naqvi.

TUESDAY, JULY 14: RISHAD TOBACCOWALA, CEO, DENUO (PART OF PUBLICIS GROUPE)

Rishad Tobaccowala is the CEO of Denuo a company that invents, inspires and instigates new forms of creativity to help Brands meet challenges of modern marketplaces. Denuo helps its clients make “tomorrow tangible today”. Denuo clients vary in size and life cycle from established leaders such as Hewlett Packard, Nestle Purina and Astra Zeneca to start-ups such as Daylife, Meebo and Glam Media. Denuo is part of Publicis Groupe. Along with his Denuo role, Tobaccowala serves on the board of VivaKi, as the top innovation leader across its four brands of Starcom MediaVest Group, Zenith Optimedia, Digitas and Denuo.

Prior to his current roles, Tobaccowala served as the Chief Innovation Officer of Publicis Groupe Media and was the founder and President of SMG Next, the first and most comprehensive futures practice in the media industry. The development of SMG Next resulted in the launch of several successful practices for SMG including: SMG Play, the first company to leverage videogames as a marketing platform; word-of-mouth practice Reverb; and Digits, a leader in mobile marketing. The TV 2.0 practice he developed focuses on the future of consumer engagement with video marketing messages. Tobaccowala was also responsible for developing SMG Search, which specializes in leveraging search applications in new ways for leading spenders in the category, including General Motors.

Before conceptualizing SMG NEXT, Tobaccowala was president and founder of SMG IP, the digital and interactive arm of SMG. As such, he played a central role in shaping the agency, which was selected by Media magazine as both 2002 and 2004 Interactive Agency of The Year. In 1993 Tobaccowala formed Leo Burnett’s Interactive Marketing Group and between 1996 and 1999 served as the President of Giant Step, Leo’s interactive agency which he helped profitably grow from 3 to 100 employees.

Tobaccowala has over 25 years of marketing and strategy experience across a wide spectrum of clients and companies. He was named by Business Week as one of the top business leaders in 2005 for his pioneering innovation, and TIME magazine once dubbed him one of five “Marketing Innovators.” He was appointed to Advertising Age's Interactive Hall of Fame; named Adweek's 2000 Media All-Star for Interactive Media; dubbed OMMA magazine Media Strategist All-Star for 2005; and named one of 2005’s Best Leaders by Business Week. In 2008 he was named an industry legend by Ad Color. He has written for (or been featured in) a host of news outlets, including Wired, Business Week, Fortune, Fast Company, MSNBC and Slate.

Tobaccowala is a much sought after speaker who has presented to several board of directors and senior leaderships of companies as diverse as Gucci Groupe, Nestle and Reuters as well as events put together by Forbes, Microsoft, Fairchild and many others.

In addition to the VivaKi board, Tobaccowala serves on the board of directors of leading behavioral marketing firm Revenue Science, the next generation search company Snap (an Idealab Company), Recycle Bank, and the Berlin School of Creative Leadership. He also serves as an advisor to many start-ups such as Feeva and Visible Measures.

Tobaccowala holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Bombay and an M.B.A. from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago.

Farooq is the chairman and CEO of Ethan Allen Interiors Inc., a position he has held since 1988. Mr. Kathwari serves at several nonprofit organizations, including Chairman of Refugees International, a Director of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and as a member of the advisory board of Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). He has received several recognitions, including the Outstanding American by Choice award from the U.S. government; the Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill Medal; the National Human Relations Award by the American Jewish Committee; the Gold medal from the National Retail Federation; and Ernst & Young's entrepreneur of the Year Award; He received a BA in English literature and political science from the University of Kashmir and an MBA in marketing from New York University. Yawar Shah is the Chief Operations Officer for Citi Shared Services (CSS). He also serves as Chairman of the Board of S.W.I.F.T. CSS is Citi’s umbrella organization for corporate center shared services. Products include Employee Services, Financial and Risk Reporting Operations, Procure to Pay Utility, Procurement Services, Reconciliations, Anti-Money Laundering Monitoring, General Services, CSS Information Solutions and the Right Placement Office.

Formerly, Yawar spent 20 years as an executive at JP Morgan Chase in various senior business and operations roles in Institutional, Consumer and Private Banking. Previous positions included the Global Operations Executive for Worldwide Securities Services, the Retail Banking Service and Operations Executive, the Chief Operating Officer of the Global Private Bank, and the General Manager of the GlobalTreasury and Trade Business.

Yawar earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in Economics from Harvard University and his MBA from Harvard Business School.

MONDAY, MAY 11: IMRAN SHAH, MANAGING PARTNER, IBB CONSULTING GROUP
Imran is a co-founder of IBB Consulting Group, the leading boutique consulting firm serving leading broadband-related product and service providers in Cable, Mobile and Media industries. Dr. Shah is responsible for IBB's strategy and vision, major client relationships and leading key engagements.

An acclaimed specialist and thought leader in convergence strategies and technology, Imran has been involved in many of the most significant projects in the broadband industry. Prior to IBB, Imran held senior consulting and industry positions in leading companies such as Philips Electronics and PA Consulting Group, a management and technology consultancy. As a sought-after consultant and industry advisor, Imran has worked with the most senior management teams in a variety of leading broadband and media companies, including AT&T, Comcast, Cox, Microsoft, Rogers, Sony, Telenor, Time Warner Cable and UPC.
